’69 Fuzz Face
Introduction
A couple of years ago I got donation in form of a hand-picked set of 3 Ge transistors chosen to work well in fuzz face type of circuit. I’ve never thought much about fuzz pedals because most of players I like don’t use it, but at one point I bit the bullet and started a build based on Fulltone ’69 fuzz.
Circuit
I used Boutique Late ’60s Fuzz Face schematic from GGG with no modifications.
Layout
I used a BB sized enclosure painted in “purple starlight” and vintage amp-style eyelet board construction for added mojo 🙂

Clips
Quick clip recorded with my RG2550 into 69 fuzz.

Hi Bancika.
I’m not a fan of Vero board wiring so i always use tagboards.
But.. everything i do when i’m trying to turn your layout into a tagboard layout it doens’t work. Maybe i’m not seeing it ?
here are 2 images.. one layout sketch and a photo of the wiring (only with resistors and transistors yet)
can you please help me out?

Thank you!
Hey, man!! Nice work! Thx!! But i think in the trannies the “e” and “c” are twisted?!? The GGG lay out the “e” is on the ground
Hello 😊
What is the polarity of the 2.2 uF capacitor?
Thank you
Musically
Hi,
+ side goes to the pot, – side to the transistor. This is the schematic I used http://generalguitargadgets.com/pdf/ggg_ff5_sc_b69.pdf
Cheers
can you give me the wiring diagram? that it is the face of the potentiometer on the drawing.
Thank you for your advice and this beautiful circuit
wiring diagram is available above in the article. Pots are drawn from the back (that’s the standard way)
Cheers
red wire on gnd and black to + ?
cheers
Man this thing sounds great!
thank you!
Hi, I’d like to build this pedal, but I can’t find anywhere Q1 or Q2. Is there anything else I can replace them with? or any other parts that might work? Also nice job.
Thanks in advance.
Sure thing, there’s a wide variety of PNP transistors that will work well in fuzz face. Both silicon and germanium. You really need to get as many as possible and try them out. Sound varies significantly, even between two (seemingly) identical transistors. Check out my second fuzz build, I used some russian Ge transistors and some silicon ones. http://diy-fever.com/effects/fuzz-face-revisited/
