Deep Purple – Child In Time (Guitar Solo Cover) |
Behold, my guitar solo cover of one of my favorite Deep Purple songs of all times. It’s been haunting me for over a decade, but I finally got to do the cover. Don’t expect too much, it’s sloppy in few places, but hey, I’m not Ritchie Blackmore 🙂
Used my custom made guitar plugged into Native Instruments Komplete 6 audio interface. The guitar is equipped with DiMarzio FRED at the bridge and PAF Pro at neck position. It’s a very versatile combination that covers a lot of ground. At the front of the VST effect chained I used Rangebastard treble booster which is modeled after Dallas Rangemaster. Amp model is LePou HyBrit (Marshall Plexi/JCM800) set on MCJ (JCM) channel. I used some EQ after the amp to scoop out the mids and slightly boost the bass to get closer to Gibson ES335 that Blackmore used on this track. There’s a little reverb added from Amplitube 3 pedal (don’t remember the exact name). At the end of the chain are Vintage Marshall G12M25 Basketwave cab impulses, one mic’d with Shure SM57 and the other with Royer R121. I blended the two to get the tone I liked. Note that for clean part at the end I didn’t change channels or anything, just switched to the two outer coils wired in parallel. It brings down the volume just enough to clean up the sound. Deep Purple – Stormbringer (Guitar Cover) w/ PositiveGrid BIAS |
One of my favorite Deep Purple songs of all time and brilliant Blackmore’s solo.
Made the backing track by down-mixing a 5.1 version of the song and playing with channel phases. Guitar: Bancika MK1 |
All Alone (Joe Satriani Guitar Cover) |
Guitar covers of one of my favorite Satriani songs. Setup is very simple – guitar into the interface and Reaper DAW running Positive Grid BIAS JTM45 amp model boosted by TSE808 tubescreamer plugin. A touch of delay is added and that’s it.

Ice 9 (Satriani Cover) intro using DIY Mark IIc+ clone |
Recorded with my custom shredding guitar using GLS ES-57 and Palmer PDI-09 simultaneously. MXR Classic Overdrive adds just a tiny bit more focus to the sound, both level and drive are set very low. Most of the distortion comes from the IIc+ preamp clone.

Boss BE-5: Digital Delay and Chorus Test Into A Clean Amp |
Testing Digital Delay and Chorus effects on Boss BE-5. These feature circuits very similar to early DD-3 and CE-2 respectively. Delay is very clean, natural sounding without being sterile and artificial. Early DD-3 are highly praised for their warm sound. Chorus is based on Panasonic BBD chips (MN3007 and MN3102) and offers little control (Rate and Depth) but works pretty well. It can add dimension to clean sounds or thicken high gain riffs. In this test I tried both effects separately and also combined for huge clean sound.
I used my Bancika MK1 guitar with Dimarzio PAF Pro in the neck position. Guitar: Bancika MK1 |
Boss BE-5: Overdrive/Distortion Test Into A Clean Amp |
Overdrive/Distortion test with Boss BE-5. Plugged straight into NI Komplete 6 audio interface, running Bias Amp (Dumble Clean model) in the Reaper. BE-5 features overdrive circuit taken from Boss OS-2 standalone unit. It’s basically a distortion and overdrive in the same box with a pot that can blend the two effects. It’s a very cool idea. I tested it with drive and tone set to noon position and blend pot set to overdrive only, 50:50 blend of overdrive and distortion and distortion only.
I used my Bancika MK1 guitar with Dimarzio FRED in the bridge position. Guitar: Bancika MK1 |
